The 2017 American Legion Baseball Western District Class A Tournament is to be played this year in Whitefish. This tourney brings together eight (8) teams from across Western Montana and British Columbia. All games will be played at Memorial Park at the corner of East Second St. and Fir Avenue, home of the Glacier Twins American Legion Baseball Club. Teams that will be playing in this event include the host team, the Glacier Twins who have established quite an impressive record this year in conference play. Additionally, the Twins have played up to a higher level of competition in non-conference play and as a result have found them selves winning three (3) long-time invitational tournaments and finishing as the second seed in pool play in the prestigious Sapa-Johnsrud Tournament that just concluded. In the West District the Twins will have the top seed for the North Division. In the South Division, the Bitterroot Red Sox out of Hamilton should be the team to beat as they have given the Twins their only two (2) losses in conference play. Other teams that will be playing in the West District Tournament include the Cranbrook, BC Bandits, the Kalispell Lakers, the Libby Loggers, the Mission Valley Mariners out of Polson, the Missoula Mavericks, and the Bitterroot Bucs out of Florence. The tournament format will be an 8-team double-elimination with play starting at 10 am on Thursday, July 20th and the tourney champion crowned on either Sunday, July 23rd or Monday, July 24th . Games the first three (3) days will be at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm & 7 pm. The Twins, as host team, will start on Thursday in the 7 pm game preceded by a brief opening ceremony. The complete seeding of all 8-teams with construction of the tourney brackets will be conducted on Sunday evening after all teams complete conference play. Day Pass admission prices are $8 for Adults and $5 for Students or Seniors age 55 and over. Children 12 and under are free. For several years, the mowers we use to maintain the playing field at Memorial Park in Whitefish have been in disrepair and requiring extensive servicing. At the same time we were fortunate to have a mower loaned to us last year from a coach who has now resigned. With this luxury ended, we were forced this spring to emergency purchase a new mower to maintain our field. The purchase of the new mower was negotiated through a local dealer with a large portion of the purchase price loaned to the Twins' organization by a long-time supporter of the program. This new mower is of high quality and should last for many years to come. We are asking our followers to donate funds so that we may repay our supporter as soon as possible. Any donation is welcomed, no matter how small. The money raised here will go directly to help pay for the balance on the new mower & seeder. The Glacier Twins American Legion Baseball program is committed to providing a positive baseball experience for the youth of Whitefish and Columbia Falls while providing an opportunity for personal growth and success involving the learning as well as the integration of lifelong skills and values such as courage, loyalty, commitment, dedication, discipline, a solid work ethic, and a positive attitude. Your commitment to this program directly benefits our local youth and our community. Again, every penny raised here will go directly towards paying for the new mower & seeder for Memorial Field. We deeply appreciate your support! The Glacier Twins are sponsored by American Legion Roosevelt Post 108 in Whitefish and governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors that work tirelessly year round to raise funds and manage an annual budget in excess of $135,000. The Twins are incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with Tax I.D. Number 81-0429681.

The Bar W Guest Ranch offers use of their riding arena for early practice each year while the snow is still on the ground. The boys repay them by painting the arena walls. A portable, aluminum pitching mound was built by Kendall & Kevin Slaybaugh.
In between rain showers, the boys were instructed in hitting techniques by Billie Kehoe.
